I am very much a city girl (I currently live in NYC), but my country roots are deep. I grew up in a semi small town in Massachusetts…think quiet, rural, farm land, but also think amazing food, diversity, fun and lots of life (5 colleges within 5 miles of each other-talk about a fun place to live when in high school. Shh! Don’t tell mom).
It’s always nice to go back to my folk’s house in “country” to get a breath of fresh air. I love being able to listen to the frogs ribbit and the birds chip. I love watching the seasons change and enjoying the peacefulness of the quiet. I love curling up next to the fireplace with a good book and playing fetch with the dogs in the East 40. I love walking through the grass barefoot and sitting on the deck with a cocktail at sunset. I love seeing familiar faces at any given place. I love being around family and familiar places. I love the inspiration from walking down our curvy, abandoned, quiet road all alone. I love sitting on the hammock daydreaming.
But that is not my home.
This is how I rejuvenate. Takes a day or two, then more often than not, I’m rushing back to the city. I just can’t wait to get back to my home.
I love the city lights and the many faces that make up the city. I love the architecture and the hardness of the concrete jungle. I love the elegance and excitement. I love the inspiration in everything and everywhere. I love the hustle and bustle and watching the webs and weaves of everyones daily journey. I love the ambition and the work ethic. I love the corner bodegas and tiny coffee shops. I love the abundance of restaurants and lounges, trying a new place every time. I love sitting on my balcony with a cup of tea watching the sunset over looking the view of the statue of liberty.
This is my home. But, I’ll never forget where I came from.
