The 14 Best Books I’ve Read in 2020

We’ve all been forced to slow down this year and the one thing I’ve enjoyed most was having more time to read! As a result, I’ve read more books this year than any year in the past. I think my total was something like 14! I’ve always loved reading a good book, however, it didn’t happen often because I’m a workaholic and didn’t carve out time to pleasurably read. Tsk tsk! That changed this year.

My most enjoyable routine as of late? Getting into bed, turning off the overhead light, turning my bedside lamp on and then after that, cracking open my book. With that being said, there are books you MUST know about and MUST read…they’re just that good!

I’ve compiled a list of all the books I’ve read this year, and man, I’ve never been so happy to have read soooo many! COVID has literally forced me to slow down (one silver lining) and open book after book.

One of the other great joys of 2020 was joining a Bookclub/sisterhood. I’ve joined bookclubs in the past but they’ve fizzled. They’ve not been like this one. Not only is it a bookclub where we intellectually chat about what we’ve read, most importantly, we’ve created some really amazing friendships in the meantime. Our bookclub group chat has literally gotten me through some of the darkest days of COVID.

What’s the book club like?

We read one book a month. And I’m the type of person, who, if I say I’m going to do something, I do it. Period. In short, there’s no “I’m missing this bookclub meeting because I didn’t finish the book.” I’ve actually surprised myself and finished every single book early, eagerly ready to start the next one. However, I used to be a slow reader (or at least that what I told myself) but I have flown through these books.

Disclaimer:

I’m not in academia nor am I on the board of selecting the Pulitzer Prize, but I must tell you, I didn’t read a bad book this year. I rate the books mostly on if I couldn’t put them down or not and to be honest, I didn’t struggle getting through any of them! I couldn’t put each one of them down.

The club [oh, that sounds soo fancy!] was founded by my new and incredible friend Jasmin Pettaway who is also the founder of Lemon-Love.com (a space dedicated for love of Beauty, Empowering Women, Lifestyle, Relationships, and Wellness). Did I also mention she’s an award winning journalist?! Bloop! Go friend!

I was introduced to the club [ooo, there it goes again] by a good friend of mine, Chantal, who lives here in NY. She’s the CEO and Founder of Chantal Diaz Collection, a hand poured vegan candle company, and you should probably go ahead and add a candle to your cart as well.

A good book + a candle = heaven!

I mean, is there anything better? A fireplace you say? Okay, a fireplace would be better. If I ever am fortunate to buy a place, the one thing it must have is a fireplace. It’s a dealbreaker for me! I digress. (And a bathtub).

So ladies, save this list. You’re going to want to come back and refer to this time and time again until you’e read every single one. Or better yet, just add all the books to your cart now! Why wait!

Happy reading! x
